WOW! It's December! It's time to haul out the decorations and lights and put up the tree, not to mention shoveling the sidewalk, bundling tight and drinking hot chocolate (or coffee, in my case, lol)! Tonight my kids and I watched Miracle of 34th Street, which of course just fueled the Christmas fever! :)

I cannot believe that it's Thanksgiving Week already! This month has just flown by. We will have family visiting from out of town, and I'm so excited and thankful to spend time with them this coming week!

And of course, who's ready for the Black Friday/Cyber Monday extravaganza? I am!! :-) I'm having a BIG sale over the weekend, and for you early-bird shoppers, I have a special discount! These sales will be at both my STS and PDP stores!

I've been busy in my digital workshop working on some goodies for the holidays as well as a girly animal/pet kit that will be released next week.

Morning Glory New Release

Oh, Baby! New Releases for 7/31!

Today I'm releasing two kits all about babies! I have a TON of baby photos to scrap still, and I really love having a variety of baby kits for all of the photos and milestones. I also love journaling about my babies' firsts, milestones, check-ups, etc, so I created little journaling strips to go along with the kits! And I went a little unconventional with the girl kits and used purple rather than pink...because quite often I find myself wanting something other than pink baby kits when I'm scrapping my daughter's baby photos. :-)

Anyway...enough of my babbling! :-) Check out these kits and the journal and word art packs. All available at my shops (images are linked). I also have a girls' bundle with the kit and additional packs, as well as a boys' bundle--a little savings if you want the whole shabang. :-)

Templates: Love 'Em or Hate 'Em?

Just recently I've found a love for templates. I haven't been digiscrapping all that long, especially compared to seasoned scrappers, but from the beginning I had an aversion to using templates. I'm not exactly sure why. It may have been because I felt like the resulting layout wasn't truly mine or that I was somehow stinting my creativity by using templates--maybe both. In spite of my feelings, I've used them a few times, whether for CT assignments or template challenges in forums, but just recently I bought a pack and used a couple of templates simply out of time constraints. Since I've started designing, I really haven't had much scrap time--something that I definitely need to find balance for because I still really love scrapping.

So just yesterday I was using these templates I'd purchased, and I discovered something wonderful. It's something that lots of people say--that templates are simply meant as a guide to help you construct your layout, but that concept finally sank in for me as I started with the template and slowly worked it into my own layout. The foundation was there, but with my added touches, it truly became my layout. I've also realized that having really amazing templates (used templates from the very talented Sara aka Zinnias and Swallowtails and Marie H Designs) did wonders for my attitude toward them! I was so pleasantly surprised.

Any template lovers out there? Who are your favorite template designers? Any template haters? On the fence? Tell me what you think! :-)

New Release! Happy 4th of July!

Happy Independence Day to those of you who celebrate it! I love the 4th of July. It's my favorite holiday after Christmas. My family (and quite often extended family) always spend the day together. We go to a fun parade that the kids, of course, love. My uncle is on the fire department and can usually get the kiddos on one of the firetrucks in the parade. We have a big barbeque and then sit on the hillside just below the mountains to watch fireworks. It's magical and romantic, fun, and truly instills a sense of patriotism and pride in who we are and where we came from.

I was thinking of all of those things while creating this kit and bundle, trying to capture the feelings that I get on this hallmark holiday, but I also think it will work really well for everyday and summer layouts, too. All of the products below are available at both my Misses BeeHaven and Design in Digital stores. So now I'm going to overload you with kit previews and CT layouts! :)

New Release, New Store, New Name!

Happy Wednesday! Today is a fresh day! Lovely and....snowy. Hah! I woke up to big fat snowflakes falling outside my window. But with a deep breath and forced smile at mother nature, I've made my peace with the fact that it still looks like winter and that I miss the sun.

Anyway, onto more important things! It's Wednesday, which is awesome for a couple of reasons. One of the designers I create for is having the grand opening of her new store at Polka Dot Plum today! To kick off the grad opening, her products are 35% off from now through the end of the week!

With her new store she has also chosen a new name and Pixie Keepsakes is now L'Posh!

And last bu certainly not least, her very first new release as L'Posh! The kit is gorgeous and has a nice combination of summer and sea with a little vintage, a little rustic, and a lot of versatility.

Hybrid Project: Woven Mini-Basket, Freebie Template

Happy Monday!

In lieu of the fact that Easter is just a hop-skip-and-jump-away, I wanted to post this hybrid project I played with a week or so ago! I was inspired by a project in a kids' magazine that we get, and decided to modify it for hybrid stuff. SO, here's what I came up with. A mini-basket, perfect for Easter or any small gift-giving occasion!

What you'll need:
     - I created a template for this project. Please feel free to download it HERE.
   - Craft glue stick and hot glue gun (hot glue for ribbon and ricrac)
     - Scissors and crafting knife
     - Ink
   - Q-tip (not completely necessary, but makes gluing a ton easier!)
     - ribbon and/or ricrac, string, glitter, buttons (all optional for decorating)

Okay, so after you have the template downloaded and opened up in your editing program of choice, choose a kit you'd like to work with. For this tutorial, I chose 'A Pony Party' by Pretty in Green, because I'm in love with this kit (and so is my daughter). You can snag it HERE at Gingerscraps.

Okay so lets get started!

Sstep 1:

Choose the papers from the kit you'd like to use. Clip them to the basket base in the template as well as the paper strips. There's plenty of room on either of those files to copy additional elements to the 'white' space. You can later cut out these elements by hand and add them to your basket for decoration. After you have everything arranged, flatten your file and print.

Step 2:

Cut out the basket base, strips and elements. The basket base has both solid lines and dotted lines. You'll want to use a cutting tool such as a Xacto knife or something similar to cut the three solid lines in each of the tabs. Score the dotted lines around the center square for easier folding in step 3. If you're an inker, ink all of your edges at this point.

Step 3:

Fold all of your scored lines so that the tabs are sticking up and the printed center is facing down, as shown (excuse my messy workspace...my creativity tends to thrive with a mess on the table, lol):

Step 4:

Next choose which strip you'd like to be on the bottom layer of your basket. You'll want to glue about 1/4-1/2" of the end of this strip on the printed side. Tuck the glued end under the first slot on one of the tabs and press together.

Step 5:

Weave the bottom strip in and out of the slots of all four tabs. When you get to the corners, do not tuck both ends in one weave. You'll want one side of the corner above strip and one below. (The above picture is incorrect...I had to go back and change that.) The length of your strip should be just long enough to get you back to the beginning with about 1/4" overlap. Use a Q-tip to glue the end of the strip above the beginning of the same strip. Hold in space for a few seconds until glue dries.

Step 6:

Weave the second strip in the same manner. However, the second strip should be an opposite weave from the first (glue the beginning of your strip to the slot next from the end of the tab). The strip should fit snugly right above the first as shown below:

Step 7:

Repeat this process, continuing to alternate the weave with each level. Four of your five strips should fit snugly in the slots of the tabs.

Step 8:

The final strip is the handle of the basket. Glue approximately 2.75" on each end of the printed side of the strip. Place ends on the side of the basket (they should go all the way to the bottom of the basket and up the side.) Firmly press both sides until glue dries. I used clothespins for extra reinforcement while glue was drying/hardening:

Step 9:

And finally, add your paper cutout embellishments as well as any ribbon, ricrac, glitter and buttons you want to add. To the inside add your gift with tissue paper, or Easter grass with an plastic egg full of goodies, paper flowers, whatever your little heart desires :-)

Temples and Tombs: New Release

I've got a fun new release from Christin's Creations to share with you today, and the very best part is that this kit is FREE this week, February 14-21!

This kit is actually a collab kit by Christin's Creations and Scraps N' Pieces, and it is centered around an ancient Egyptian theme. Christin's Creations' half of the collab focuses on the 'temples', the Biblical history of the area including Joseph being sold into Egypt. The kit captures a great feel for the ancient Hebrew culture and past. Scraps N' Pieces created the 'tombs' part of the collab, focusing more on the Egyptian side of things, complete with pyramids and lots of gold elements. These kits are wonderful for scrapping (or hybrid) Church projects/photos as well as trips to Egypt, the Middle East, or even Las Vegas!

First Attempts at Hybrid

So with the exception of a few cards, I have never really attempted a hybrid scrapping project until just recently. I decided I would use my new-found love of all things digiscrap to make hybrid Valentines for my daughter's preschool class. I am SO happy with how they turned out! They are candy boxes (template made by Wendy Adams), and all these little beauties are filled with Hershey Hugs & Kisses.

This first picture is the batch I designed for my daughter's class a few weeks ago and only finally cut out and put together yesterday. These were made with the scrap kit Be Mine by Jessica Edwards.

The following two photos are Valentines I made for my kiddos today because I loved how much the ones above turned out. I created these two using a scrap kit from Seal Scraps, Sealed with a Kiss, which is an amazingly adorable Valentine kit with cute animals and a great color scheme of pink, red and green.

I really love this kit! From kit to the alphas and word art, it's perfect for scrapping valentine photos or farm photos, and would be udderly (haha...oy, yes, I went there) adorable for hybrid Valentine projects!
